F8 2018 - Bring communities closer together

Facebook believes in the positive impact of communities. Our mission is to give people the power to build community, and we invite you to help achieve it through the F8 Hackathon. Code your way toward a share of cash, career-advancing opportunities, F8 conference tickets, and special hackathon swag.

Get inspired by Facebook community leaders to build software applications that help bring communities closer together using any of the Facebook developer products.  You can secure bonus cash prizes for exceptional solutions that bridge on and offline experiences, build and grow community, and drive engaging communities. After F8 ends, you can submit your solution to the global, online challenge for a chance at even more prizes.

Need even more motivation? Every eligible submission that doesn't win a top prize will earn a $500 participation award!

This hackathon is only open to participants who were accepted and confirmed entry by Facebook, Inc. prior to the hackathon AND who attend the hackathon in person.

Main Requirement: Build software applications that help bring communities together and use at least one Facebook developer product.

Bonus prizes are available to solutions that best fit the following community categories:

  1. Bridge on and offline experiences
  2. Build and grow community
  3. Drive engaging communities

How to enter

  1. Enter your completed submission form BEFORE 9:00 AM PST MAY 2, 2018Late submissions will NOT be accepted! 
  2. Ensure at least one member of your team is at your assigned table for the entire judging period in order to demo to the judges. You may be asked to demo more than once and if your team’s table is empty when the judges come by, you may be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

  • Quality of the Idea (40%)
    Includes creativity and originality of the idea.
  • Implementation of the Idea (30%)
    Includes how well the idea was executed by the developer, the extent to which Facebook tools are leveraged and the extent to which respect for user privacy was considered in the design.
  • Potential Impact on Communities (30%)
    Includes ability to strengthen and/or grow communities.
